Call Us Now: 07783630237JK Car Electrics offers professional ECU remapping for petrol and diesel vehicles across Ilkeston, Derby, Nottingham and surrounding areas. Our custom tuning solutions unlock hidden performance, improve throttle response and can significantly enhance fuel economy—all while maintaining reliability and staying within safe parameters.
Unlike generic "one-size-fits-all" maps, we use quality calibration files tailored to your specific vehicle, taking into account the engine variant, fuel quality, and your driving requirements.
Every modern vehicle has an Engine Control Unit (ECU)—the computer that manages fuel injection, ignition timing, boost pressure (on turbocharged engines), and many other parameters. Manufacturers typically program the ECU conservatively to account for varying fuel qualities, climates, and service intervals across global markets.
ECU remapping—also known as chip tuning—involves modifying these software parameters to optimise performance for UK fuel quality and conditions. The result is a noticeable improvement in power delivery, torque, and often fuel efficiency.
A Stage 1 remap is the most popular tuning option. It works with your vehicle's existing hardware—no physical modifications required—making it completely reversible and undetectable to the casual observer.
For vehicles with automatic or DSG/S-Tronic gearboxes, we also offer TCU (Transmission Control Unit) remapping. This complements an ECU remap perfectly, ensuring the gearbox responds optimally to the increased power and torque.
Quicker, crisper gear changes for improved acceleration and driving enjoyment.
Allow the engine to rev higher before upshifts for more performance in Sport mode.
Enable or enhance launch control functionality on compatible vehicles.
Remove gearbox torque limits that may restrict ECU remap gains.
Popular for: VW/Audi DSG (DQ200, DQ250, DQ381, DQ500), BMW ZF 8-speed, Mercedes 7G-Tronic & 9G-Tronic, Ford Powershift, and many more automatic transmissions.
If outright power isn't your goal, an economy remap focuses on maximising fuel efficiency. This is especially popular with:
Typical fuel savings range from 8–15% depending on driving style and vehicle type.
We cover most major manufacturers including:
Experiencing warning lights, limp mode, or failed regeneration cycles? We offer software solutions for DPF, EGR, and AdBlue systems—ideal for off-road vehicles, motorsport, and export markets where these solutions are permitted.
The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) captures soot from exhaust gases. When it becomes blocked or fails, it can cause:
Our Solution: We can remove the DPF software from the ECU, eliminating warning lights and limp mode. The physical filter can be cleaned out or replaced with a straight pipe.
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve recirculates exhaust gases back into the engine. Over time it becomes clogged with carbon, causing:
Our Solution: We can disable the EGR system in the ECU software, preventing the valve from opening. This stops exhaust gases re-entering the engine, improving performance and reliability.
AdBlue (DEF/SCR) is a urea-based fluid injected into the exhaust to reduce NOx emissions. System faults can cause:
Our Solution: We can disable the AdBlue system in the ECU, removing all warnings and preventing the "no restart" countdown. No more expensive sensor replacements or AdBlue top-ups.
DPF, EGR, and AdBlue delete services are for off-road, motorsport, and export vehicles only. It is illegal to use a vehicle on UK public roads with these systems removed or disabled. Removal of emissions equipment will result in MOT failure and potential fines. We only perform these services for vehicles that will not be used on public highways.
We use reputable tuning file providers—no cheap, generic downloads.
We come to you—home, workplace, or any convenient location.
Original map backed up—can be restored at any time if needed.
Start/Stop technology—some love it, others hate it. For those who want it gone, we can permanently disable start-stop by changing the ECU coding. All hardware remains in place; it's simply electronically disabled, giving you back full control.
When modifying a vehicle for performance or motorsport—removing swirl flaps, O2 sensors, MAF, AdBlue or other components—fault codes and warning lights often appear. We can permanently remove these DTCs from the ECU.
We can add or remove speed limiters on a wide range of vehicles. Whether it's a company fleet of vans that need limiting, or an individual wanting a factory limiter removed, we can help.
Need to transfer data from one ECU to another? We offer ECU cloning and data transfer services. This is often required when replacing a faulty ECU with a used unit, or upgrading to a different variant.
Emissions Update Software Rollback – 1.2 TDI, 1.6 TDI, and 2.0 TDI VAG Group EA189 engines.
Following the emissions recall, many owners have experienced issues after the software update was applied to their vehicles. Common complaints include reduced performance, increased fuel consumption, EGR valve failures, and DPF problems.
We can rollback the emissions fix software to restore your vehicle to pre-update condition, often resolving these issues. This service is available for affected Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, Cupra, and Škoda vehicles with the EA189 engine.
In February 2014 the UK government introduced a visual inspection as part of the annual MOT test for road vehicles. The tester must now look for the presence of a DPF filter section in the exhaust.
A missing DPF, where one was fitted when the vehicle was built, will result in an MOT failure. A vehicle might still pass the visible smoke emissions test, which is primarily intended to identify vehicles in a very poor state of repair, whilst emitting illegal and harmful levels of fine exhaust particulate.
It is an offence under the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulation 61a(3)) to use a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet.
⚠️ Important: Removal of a DPF will almost invariably contravene these requirements, making the vehicle illegal for road use. The potential penalties for failing to comply are fines of up to £1,000 for a car or £2,500 for a light goods vehicle.
JK Car Electrics only offers legal solutions that maintain MOT compliance. We do not offer DPF delete services for road-going vehicles.
What is ECU remapping?
ECU remapping (also called chip tuning) is the process of modifying the software in your vehicle's Engine Control Unit to optimise performance, improve throttle response, and often enhance fuel economy. We adjust parameters like fuel injection timing, boost pressure, and ignition timing.
Is ECU remapping safe for my engine?
Yes, when done properly. We use quality calibration files from reputable tuning providers that keep parameters within safe limits. A Stage 1 remap works with your existing hardware and doesn't push the engine beyond its design tolerances. We always recommend keeping up with regular servicing.
Will remapping void my warranty?
If your vehicle is still under manufacturer warranty, remapping may affect it. Dealers can detect software modifications. However, we back up your original map, so it can be restored if needed before any warranty work. Many customers wait until their warranty expires before remapping.
How much power will I gain from a Stage 1 remap?
Gains vary by vehicle. Turbocharged petrol engines typically see 10-30% more power, while turbodiesels often gain 20-40% more torque. Naturally aspirated engines see smaller gains (5-15%). We can advise on expected gains for your specific vehicle.
Will remapping improve my fuel economy?
It can, especially on diesel vehicles. By optimising torque delivery, you use less throttle to maintain speed. Many customers report 8-15% improvement in MPG. However, if you drive more aggressively to enjoy the extra power, fuel consumption may increase!
Can the remap be reversed?
Yes, absolutely. We always save a backup of your original factory map before making any changes. This can be restored at any time—for example, before selling the vehicle or for warranty work.
Do I need to tell my insurance company?
Yes. ECU remapping is a modification that should be declared to your insurance company. Failure to disclose could invalidate your policy. Many insurers charge a small additional premium (or none at all), especially for economy remaps.
What is a TCU remap?
A TCU (Transmission Control Unit) remap optimises your automatic or DSG gearbox. It can provide faster shift times, raised rev limits, launch control, and removal of torque limiters that may restrict ECU remap gains. It's the perfect complement to an engine remap on automatic vehicles.
How long does remapping take?
Most ECU remaps take 1-2 hours. Some vehicles with more complex security (like newer VAG MQB platforms) may take longer. TCU remaps are usually done alongside the ECU remap and add minimal extra time.
